Plunging right in--My First Post

I confess that I have gotten hooked on several blogs of late--notably those of my extended family, and I look forward to seeing what they post. It seems like a good way to keep in touch without actually addressing anyone in particular, and also offers an opportunity to allow for a little reflection on happenings without any obligation on anybody's part--the writer's or the reader's--all participation is voluntary. As of right now, I do not know how to operate our digital camera, so will have to have a lesson or two with my in-house computer guru, and he can show me in minute detail how it works. There have been times in the past when some of the world's great computer mysteries turn out to be very simple--just the touch of a key. The problem always is, which key? And, if I push the wrong key, will I crash the whole thing? The pictures really add a lot to the blogs though, so I will be scheduling that lesson soon.

The aforementioned guru is my husband of 40+ years. We have managed to keep it together through five children, contract negotiations, college financing, weddings, retirement, and the full time stress of owning and maintaining a 108 year old house. My husband does all the maintenance (read rebuilding) of this wonderful relic, so that it doesn't fall down around our ears in the middle of the night. He knows how to fix just about everything. As of now, he is rebuilding the 18 windows on our enclosed front porch. He did a small fix-it favor for a friend one day, and she said he was "A Treasure!" So, in this blog, he will be known as MyTreasure. Or, sometimes Pa, as the grandkids call him.

MyTreasure has gone off to play his violin in the local orchestra, as he does on numerous nights. Sunday is a concert, and we have to hurry back from our weekend away so that he can put on his tux, and go make some music. I have the luxury of having a husband who OWNS a tux. He does look fabulous in it, I must say, and how many wives are lucky enough to see their men dressed up fancy like that any time after their wedding day? He's MyTreasure!

As for me, I will get out one of the guilty pleasure dvds that I brought home from the library--one of those boy meets girl/loses girl/eventually finds his way in the world with or without the girl movies that you really don't recognize the title of while you are standing in front of the shelf with your head tilted to your right shoulder trying to read the letters on the sides of those little dvd boxes... Unfortunately, I never figure out why I don't recognize the titles, since the photos on the front always look great, and the box always says "Picture of the Year", until I get to the end of the film, and it really wasn't very good. Obviously that is why I never heard of it. Well, hope springs eternal, and I keep bringing them home. Usually they are free, unless I forget to bring them back on time, and then it gets expensive. Particularly annoying if I didn't even get to watch the darn thing. Our library won't charge you if you get them into the drop box before opening the next day. I take advantage of that quite often. I will confess though, that last week was amnesty week, and I did keep "Sense and Sensibility" out for three extra nights until I could watch it. It was worth it!
